Ms. Pac-Man Mini – Electrical

Dr. Emmett Brown:
“No no no, this sucker’s electrical, but it requires a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity I need.”

Ok – maybe I need something with a little less kick.. I’ll be happy with “didn’t catch on fire” when I plug this in..

I’m sure many have seen worse with mice and all. This is pretty nasty. The dusty layer is partially solid..

After removing all the parts, here is the backer board. Since it has original labels I’ll keep it.

When I clean these up, I hit them with a wire wheel to get the rust off. Rustoleum Satin Black cut with mineral spirits makes a nice wash coat on the metal plates. It looks like the natural grey color when done.

Washed, cleaned and installed. The original fuse blocks were pretty rough, and then one of the holders broke.

New ones ordered and replaced. All the voltages checked out. No issues..

Someone cut all of the power leads and wire nutted them together. This is the first Midway machine I’ve had to dig this far into – Midway used all AMP connectors and pins (vs. Molex) in this cabinet. I picked up edge connector leaf pins and all of the AMP .084 male, female pins for the quick connectors.

The leaf pins have little tabs between the wire crimp and the insulator crimp that need to NOT get crimped. So I also needed an inexpensive crimper that I can crimp each side of the tabs. It works pretty nice for $12. Since I’m trying to restore it back to (reasonably) original – I ordered all of the color coded wiring to match the originals.

Fully disembodied Ms. Pacman running on the bench. I picked up a Highscoresaves kit just for the multigame feature. It has Pengo – I just like that stupid game.. What I really like is that its non-destructive and I can put it back to an original Ms. Pacman in about 5 minutes.
