When one Joust just won’t do..
I’ve always liked Joust and searched for a while to get one that could be cleaned up – my Joust Upright restoration is much more than a cleanup and was well under way when this became available.
It was posted on KLOV for a reasonable price considering its (relative) rarity and what others have sold for. The problem was it happened to be an 11 hour drive one way and I have a Joust.. Only 500 cocktails were made and way fewer of those are in existence today. This one works as an added bonus.
So I told myself wait a couple days and see if it just goes away.. then post after post on the forum.. “how could it still be there?” they asked. By the next day I started the dialog with the owner.. Turns out he had a Ms. Pacman cabaret too.. We put together a package deal.
Side note: 4 minutes before I get to the hotel on the ride out (at 2:15AM) I get pulled over going 65 in a 55. “Hi officer – I’m literally 4 minutes from the hotel – look at the GPS screen – I’ve been driving for 11 hours and I just want to go to bed”. Officer after seeing the GPS and returning my license and me not being a drunk: “Ok – go get to bed”. Thank you officer!
Overall it is in B, B- condition. At least the screen burn is Joust. I picked the lock to get the coin box door open.. No coins. The monitor frame is a clever design. There should be 4 bolts that hold the wood frame in place and the whole thing drops in on blocks. Pretty easy to remove as a unit and pulls out clean.
I’ll be removing the switcher and getting the original power supply back in working order. Full coverage in the Joust Cocktail Power Board rebuild post. It will get a full clean out and inspection of header pins, etc.
There are some cosmetic items that will be addressed – especially the front panel/coin door area. Not 100% sure how far to go yet.. But it will all look original when its done.
