Centuri Pleiades– PCB Repair Logs

Another new title – another new bench adapter that works with my Bench Test Rig. Pleiades started with a confusing pinout document.. Each adapter starts with connecting power and video first. Once the board appears to be repaired (i.e. boots and a game shows up). I wire in controls. In this case, the control pinout on the document I had was just wrong. I worked my way through the game board and corrected the connections so that the game was playable. Board 1 actually had controls issues which was a contributing factor to getting this working. My system evolved with me building a number of bench controllers for testing. All of it is quite modular and flexible. Once a bench adapter has been built – I can power up a board immediately and know that it is all connected and powered correctly.

Board set got chip cleaning. No sync on initial power-up; R/G/B signals appeared active.

These jumper wires are factory, but had been worked on at some point. The soldering had been reworked at some point. After some diagnostic work, determined that jumper wires were attached incorrectly. Corrected that and got video.

From here spent a significant amount of time working on controls. As it turns out – this board also had problems around controls. After debugging the pinouts and board issues – determined that a 74LS157 failed causing loss of most control inputs.

No further issues during testing. Burn in testing is a 6 day test period with 36+ hours of power on time.
